Why do we love it?

Looking for a little adventure in your wine? Take a note then.

Name: The Jewell of August

Variety: Avgoustolidi

Area: Mesolongi

Producer: Dimitris Sotiriou

Does it sound familiar?

We're already halfway through summer, and the time and weather suits it perfectly! Although the Jewel of August 2015 by Sotiriou Winery is shining all year round, it is at its best right now

In an unknown for its wines region of Greece, in Mesolongi, Dimitris Sotiriou and his family (the eldest son studied oenology in Bordeaux), cultivated only three Greek varietals. Malagouzia, Mavroudi and unknown Avgoustolidi. Its place of origin is considered to be Zakynthos where it is mostly known as Goustolidi, but on the opposite bank, at Mesolongi, its results are unique! Obsessive believer in quality, Dimitris Sotiriou decided not to vinificate the harvest of 2014 as he was not entirely satisfied with its result. The vintage of 2015 however, as he told us, is his best year so far. And we are here to confirm it!

Floral aromas, fresh fruit and its refined character, make it a white wine which will impress you by bringing the whole summer in your glass.

Make a note of the name Sotiriou somewhere...

Faint yellow color in the glass.

Fresh sensation in the nose full of fruits and flowers coming together in an impressive aromatic combination. Lemon tree flower and evening primrose are combined with peach, melon grapefruit and medlar. Hints of orange zest, honey and light minerality complement the elegant aromatic set.

Medium body volume in the mouth, with balanced, refreshing acidity and light sweetness that brings out the fruit and flower aromas. The good aftertaste leaves a sense of peach and grapefruit in the mouth.

Stuffed squids

  • 1/2 kg squids
  • 2 Onions finely chopped
  • 1 leek finely chopped
  • 1 red Florina pepper
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Clean the squids by removing the plastic membrane and their skin. Remove the heads, place them separately on a plate, and chop them.

Saute onion and leek in a pan. Add the chopped tentacles to the mixture and finally the rice. Saute them together for a few minutes. Pour a glass of white wine in the pan. Pour in the mixture the chopped Florina pepper, the dill, and the mint. Add salt and pepper.

Fill the squid up to 2/3 with the filling and close it with a toothpick. Put some olive oil on the squids, salt, pepper, and a little sweet paprika. Put them in a pan, cover them with some water, wine, and olive oil and place them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees.

Bake for 35'-40 '(or until the rice is tender).
