Why do we love it?

Avgoustiatis is a rare variety. If it hides at the root of the of the mountain it makes discovering it even more challenging. Originating from the Ionian sea, the Avgoustiatis is one of the Greek varieties that gradually starts getting popular nationwide and are preferred by wine producers for their complexity and elegant character. Besides the Ionian Sea, western Peloponnese and the Aegean islands seem to believe in its potential. Klima Grampsas  has invested in this cultivating in its place of origin, the vineyards of Zakynthos.

The two brothers Tasos and Christos Grampsas revived the family’s wine tradition by creating an enviable boutique winery in the hilly village Lagopodo.

Investing in their favorite Avgoustiatis, they produced a second label besides the first fresh version. From selected vineyards on the hills of Zakynthos the grapes were used for producing a red wines which stayed in new French oak barrels for 12 months. And Avgoustiatis seemed to ejoy it. Without covering the red fruit aromas, the oak added depth, volume and excess finesse.

The Avgoustiatis on the Root of the Mountain 2021 from Klima Grampsas is not a long-aging wine. It's what you will enjoy tonight or any other night for the next 2-3 years. Trust us. You will really enjoy it.

  • 2 carrots
  • 2 red peppers
  • 2 tbsps. of herbs (basil, thyme, throubi)
  • 200 g gruyere grated
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsps. breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsps. melted butter
