Why do we love it?

Do you know where Malagouzia, the most beloved variety for Greeks, comes from? From the Etoloakarnania region. Yes, near Messologi. So, you can imagine that when you get a Malagouzia from its place of origin, you will get the full Monty.  Malagouzia 2017 of Sotiriou Winery is one of the most elegant versions, with impressive balance between herbal and flower notes.

Sotiriou Winery is located in Lessini of Mesologgi and its vineyards are around the river Acheloos. Malagouzia is specifically cultivated in the area of ​​Oiniades, in a very rich environment, as Acheloos generously offers all the necessary elements for the proper phenolic maturation of the grapes. Sotiriou family works excessively with the vineyard so they apply different techniques to each variety in order to achieve its best expression. They perform strict pruning and green harvesting to limit the livelier productivity of malagouzia, so it gives low yield per hectare and a crisp, juicy wine.

Tastes Like

Pale lemon color with grey shades in the glass.

Moderate (+) aromatic intensity with pleasant aromas of sweet lemon, melon, peach, and some botanical notes of peppermint and mint that provide freshness and liveliness.

In the palate it has medium body with an oily sensation, characteristic of the variety when expressed correctly, that balances with the crisp but refreshing acidity. Citrus flavors and more specifically lemon and lime meet with white peach and nectarine to create a pleasant aromatic bouquet. Citrusy aftertaste that remains in the mouth for a long time.

Combine it with small fish in the oven, seafood dishes or salads. Alternatively enjoy it on its own as an aperitif

Quinoa salad with avocado and bell peppers

  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of red and green bell peppers cut into cubes
  • 1/2 ripe avocado cut into thin slices
  • 2 tbsps. of onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsps. of lemon juice
  • 2 tbsps. of fresh oregano
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Balsamic cream

Boil the quinoa in a small pot and once the water boils, lower the heat and let simmer until it absorbs all the water (about 10 minutes).

Let the quinoa cool down.

Add all the ingredients except avocados to a bowl and mix well.

Garnish with 5-6 slices of avocado and serve with balsamic cream.
