Incredibly delicate!

Do you know what was the only positive thing in the last poll vote recently voted? Yes, that with the marches and protests. The PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) of Samos was finally released. That is it broke, the compulsory cooperative which, from 1934, forced the wine-growers of the island to give all their production to the cooperative. Now, other new producers can (officially) produce wine and use the word Samos on their label.

Certainly the history of Nopera wines is anything but fresh news. It starts in the mid 19th century when the Nopera family abandoned Malta to migrate to the island of Samos. There, from the earliest years, they produced high quality wine which soon became widely known to France.

Nopera family descendant, Nicholas Mytilineos along with the winegrower and winemaker Yiannis Kostakis founded Nopera Wines in order to revive the historical family vineyard.

The 40-acre vineyard area is cultivated with organic and biodynamic techniques aiming at highlighting the complexity of the terroir and the unique characteristics of the Muscat variety.

The Roya of Nopera Wines comes from a single vineyard in the area called Roya which is ideal for the production of dry Muscat wines.

With minimal intervention in winemaking, the Roya 2017 is an extremely subtle and delicate dry white wine of the charismatic variety which seems to have finally abandoned the sweet wine stereotypes to prove that it is as good, or even better, in producing dry white wines.

PAIR IT

Combine with salads, pasta with seafood or white cheese

Pasta with seafood sauce

  • 1 tbsp. of olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. of paprika
  • 400g chopped tomatoes
  • 1 liter of chicken broth (from cube is fine)
  • 300 grams of macaroni
  • 240g pack of frozen seafood mix
  • some parsley leaves, finely chopped, and slices of lemon for serving

Heat the olive oil in a wok or a large pan. Add onion and garlic and saute them in moderate heat for 5 minutes until they are softened. Add paprika, tomato and broth and let the mixture boil.

Reduce the heat to simmer and add the pasta. Cook for 7 minutes by stirring occasionally to avoid sticking together. If you use a ready mix of seafood, defrost it and add it in the end, cooking for another 3 minutes. Season with salt pepper as desired. Finally, sprinkle with parsley and serve with slices of lemon.
