Château Margaux - The Winery
It is one of the most important and famous wineries in the world, with a history dating back to the 12th century. From the beginning of the 18th century, it became the gold standard of Bordeaux for its unique quality and its wines are selling faster than the speed of light in every corner of the globe. As one of the First Growth Chateaux - one of only four recognized as outstanding in the 1855 Historical Classification in Bordeaux - Château Margaux has always been the great aristocrat of Medoc. It is known as the “Versailles of Medoc”. Its vineyards combine uniquely many different soils and subsoils while the varieties they cultivate are Cabernet Sauvignon (mainly), Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Finally, a Greek era has started in 1977 for the Chateau, since it passed into the hands of Andre Mentzelopoulos. His daughter Corinne is currently at the helm.
Château Margaux 2018 - The Wine
The blend, for the 2018 vintage, consists of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. What characterizes this great vintage is the concentration and the huge potential of aging, according to experts. The wine fermented with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures. It is then transferred to oak barrels where malolactic takes place. The wine matures there for about 2 years and is bottled unfiltered.
