Tenuta San Guido - The Winery
The Tenuta San Guido winery from the Maremma region of Tuscany needs no special recommendations! A legendary winery of the region, producing some of the best and most famous wines of Tuscany, such as Guidalberto, Le Difese and of course the flagship of the estate, but also one of the most famous wines in the world, the Super-Tuscan Sassicaia! With the motto "La Terra e Viva", the winery has been operating with absolute respect for the environment and tradition since the early 1940s, when the "experimental" wine called Sassicaia was created! Its creator, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta (cousin of the famous Antinori family), wanted to compete with Bordeaux wines and realized that the terroir of the area was similar to that of the Graves region in Bordeaux! The first commercial release of Sassicaia was in 1968, it was successful and the rest, is a very beautiful story! From Vino da Tavola it got "promoted" to IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) and Super Tuscan (because it contains varieties that are not native in Italy). Finally, to understand the size of Sassicaia, we will simply say that since 1994 it has its own DOC appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC. The only wine in Italy that has this privilege!
Sassicaia Magnum 2019 - The Wine
A Super Tuscan that has its own Appellation, Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC! The only one in Italy! A fantastic wine, one of the most recognized in the whole world, consisting of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and if you try it, we are sure you will never forget it! 2019 was a peak year for Super Tuscans and that's why importers and those in the wine market are scrambling to get their hands on some bottles! The vines are located in the Bolgheri area, at an altitude of 100 to 300 meters. Manual harvest, careful sorting of grapes, soft pressings and indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, French barriques and a small percentage of American oak. There, the 2019 vintage remained for 25 months. A wine that will captivate you!
