Chateau Palmer - The Winery

The winery dates back to the 17th century, but Charles Palmer took over in 1814. It is one of the leading wine-producing estates in France's iconic Margaux wine region and among the best in the world. Its best wines are considered simply unbeatable among the rest of the Bordeaux region and score mythical ratings each year. Since 2004, the estate has been run by the charismatic agronomist and oenologist Thomas Duroux, who has completely modernized it and experimented with biodynamic cultivation. Château Palmer is today among Bordeaux's leading biodynamic vineyards, with iconic wines characterized by richness and complexity.

Chateau Palmer 2009 - The Wine

The wine consists of the Merlot (52%), Cabernet Sauvignon (41%) and Petit Verdot (7%) varieties. The vineyards are located just outside the village of Margaux, planted on a plateau of gravel, sand and clay soils overlooking the Gironde estuary. The average age of the vines is about 40 years, with some exceeding 70 years and giving the wine a mythical character! The grapes were very carefully selected and vinified in a special way and with great attention to reveal all the authenticity of the region's exceptional terroir. The vintage of 2009, scored 99pts Jeb Dunnuck98pts James Suckling, Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast. 2009 Château Palmer can be kept in the cellar until around 2050 to fully express its aromatic palette!

Tastes Like

“The 2009 Palmer is without a doubt one of the best Bordeaux wines I have tasted. A rare combination of wealth and elegance! Aromas of black currants, violets, pencil shavings and a touch of minerality, emerge from this rich and highly concentrated Margaux. It is perfectly balanced, has a ripe, hedonistic core of fruit, as well as built-in acidity. It is a dream today, but it has a huge aging potential for 30-40 years, maybe more…”. 99pts - Jeb Dunnuck

"Deep lampshade in colour, the Palmer 2009 offers an enchanting sensation of black fruit, cooked plums, cassis and black cherry compote, with sparks of Kirsch and wild sage. Deep earthy aromas emerge, black truffle and fresh licorice. Full seductive and rich in the mouth, generous in fruit beautifully framed by velvety tannins and luscious freshness. Long aftertaste with a mineral character." 98pts - Wine Advocate

“Remarkable power! Aromas of blackberries and notes of violets. Full bodied, with round tannins and a juicy aftertaste. Extremely beautiful. Fantastic finish." 98pts - James Suckling

"A beautiful wine, with very balanced tannins surrounded by fruit aromas. It is dense, of course, but this density is balanced with great elegance by fruits such as blackberry and plums. It has a gentle sweetness and juicy acidity. The wine is excellently structured, and concentrated with full style characteristics. Of the Top 100 Cellar Picks of 2012'. 98pts - Wine Enthusiast
