Mouchtaro from Muses Estate is the first wine that comes to mind when you think of rare Greek varieties and juicy, expressive reds with real personality. We know it well — the same happens to us. This year, however, with the 2024 vintage, the Zacharias brothers have truly surpassed themselves, crafting perhaps its most impressive expression to date.
Athanasios Zacharias with his persistent efforts was responsible for saving this extremely rare Greek variety from the phylloxera of 1955, which destroyed the Greek vineyard almost completely. Mouchtaro owes him its existence. It is cultivated exclusively in the Muses Valley, at the foot of Mount Helicon. The third generation of the winery, Nikos, Stelios, and Panagiotis Zacharias, could not help but follow the vision and the path set by their grandfather. Mouchtaro proved difficult to cultivate.
The three brothers invested in organic cultivation, taking advantage of the ideal conditions of the region. The altitude of 550-650 m, the slopes that provide good drainage, and the cold air masses from Helicon that create a high diurnal range, contribute significantly to the perfect and healthy ripening of the fruit. With very low yields (450 kg / km2) it acquires a unique concentration that expresses its diversity in each sip. In this classic single varietal vinification, Mouchtaro 2024 Muses Estate fully vindicates those who believed in it and devoted themselves to its cultivation
You will hardly find another Greek wine with the dense cherry sensation of Mouchtaro Muses Estate.
