Why do we love it?

In Greece, we cherish the Syrah. Fortunately, the well-known French variety shows to fit well in our territories, giving great wines from north to south. And Syrah 2016 by Kitrvs Winery is from the north and is undoubtedly one of the best Syrah in Greece.

In Pieria, in the village of Kitros Pydna, George Garypidis and his family do not joke with their work. In fact, they are probably the most serious winemakers we have ever met. Their attention in the family-owned, Northeast oriented vineyard is unique, and so is their persistence on the perfect management of every detail in all stages of winemaking.

Controlled irrigation of the vineyards and green harvesting ensures low yield and achievement of the maximum concentration of the fruit. The ideal maturation is the risk they take every year with the weather threatening of a total loss of the vintage. And until now it has worked out perfectly.

Syrah 2016 of Kitrvs Winery is a dense, juicy wine that will remind the connoisseurs of Australian Shiraz. It surely has great aging potential, but our inducement is to enjoy it now, in its absolute youth, in “blood-sucking” feasts. If you are patient, in 3-4 years it will be even better but we just cannot restrain ourselves...

Tastes Like

It has a deep magenta color.

The nose is of moderate aromatic intensity with notes of black ripe cherry, blueberry, cassis, and raspberry, accompanied with vanilla, pepper, smoked paprika, butterscotch, melted chocolate, tobacco, and leather.

On the palate, it’s medium (+) bodied, with moderate tannins and crisp acidity. Aromas of cherry, sour cherry, blackberry, and cedar are dominant. On the next sip, vanilla, leather, pepper, toffee, black tea, chocolate, and mocha make their appearance. Its delicious spicy aftertaste will excite you.

with rich grilled meat, pungent fillet, and home – made sausages with leek. 

Kebabs with yogurt sauce

for kebabs

  • 300 gr. ground beef
  • 300 gr. ground lamb
  • 1 tsp. tomato paste
  • 5 tbsps. of milk
  • ½ cube of beef stock
  • 1½ tbsp. of butter (preferably sheep)
  • 1 tbsp. lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp. of pine nuts
  • 1 ¼ tsp. of cumin
  • ½ tsp. of smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp. of allspice
  • ½ tsp. of dry coriander
  • ¼ tsp. of cinnamon
  • Black pepper

 

for the sauce

  • 1½ tbsp of tomato paste
  • 350 gr. concassed tomatoes
  • ½ cube of beef stock
  • 250 ml. water, tepid
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tbsp. of sugar
  • Chili flakes optional
  • Thyme
  • Cumin
  • Red pepper
  • Olive oil

You will also need

  • Yogurt
  • Fresh coriander, parsley or mint
  • Pitta bread

Put all spices, zest and pine nuts on the mortar and shred them. In a bowl add the tomato paste, the spices and the melted butter. In the milk, dissolve ¼ of the beef stock cube, mix and add to the mixture. After kneading for 5 to 7 minutes, we make kebabs in the corresponding shape. Put the kebabs in the refrigerator and leave for 1 hour. In a frying pan, mix all the ingredients of the sauce together and simmer until it thickens. Roast the kebabs and pitta breads on a charcoal grill or in the oven. After the kebabs are cooked, put them on the pitta breads by adding plenty of sauce, yogurt and chili flakes, preferably!
