A robust Syrah, from those who ask for bbq and good company, is our choice for mid-September. The French variety is cultivated in the vineyards of Eva-Maria Boehme and Haris Antoniou on the slopes of the Gerania, at an altitude of 400 meters, in an area closely linked to wine since 1000 BC.
The poor limestone soil of the region is rich in lava residues, microelements and fossilized shells and together with the particular terrain, which is full of hills, and the fact that it is located between two sea blocks, the Corinthian and the Saronic, it composes a unique terroir.
Harry and Eva love the Syrah. For Syrah 2012 Domaine Evharis the fruit was very carefully seleced by hand. After the initial fermentation for 15 days in special stainless steel tanks, it matured beautifully for 12 months in French oak barrels acquiring spicy character.
Impressively structured, with absolute balance on the aromas and the palate, the Syrah 2012 Domaine Evharis is certainly among the best versions of the variety in Greece and those that will accompany bbq with friends and nights in front of the fireplace.
We loved it now but it can certainly be further aged for five more years.
