5 + 1 LIASTOS FROM ROMEIKO - KARAVITAKIS WINERY

If you ever been to a marriage in Crete, you will surely have tasted Marouvas! Marouvas is a high-alcoholic wine with a strong oxidized character that resembles sherry or madeira. The variety behind this wine is Romeiko.

Romeiko is a reddish variety from Chania, susceptible in oxidization and not very deep colored. Studies have shown that it has a genetic similarities with one of the noble varieties of Madeira. This shows how the variety is ideal for creating sweet wines! Liastos from Romeiko of Karavitakis winery is, as its name suggests, made of sundried Romeiko grapes, which are harvested overripe and then left under the hot sun for 12 days. The wine ages in oak barrels for at least 36 months. After that it is bottled in its beautiful bottle and is ready to fill up your glass and win you over from the very first sip.

Liastos from Romeiko is a stunning, sweet wine that does not look like anything you've tasted so far.

It has medium amber color.

Bold nose with intense nutty and spicy character expressed as nut, hazelnut, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon. Honey, toffee, butter, coffee, orange zest, date and apricot jam take off the aromatic bouquet.

On the palate it is oily, with medium to full body and balanced acidity. Caramelized almond, hazelnut, nut, cinnamon, cloves, sweet orange, honey, dried apricot, toast and bergamot fill up your mouth. The toffee aftertaste stays in the mouth until the next sip.
