Makryonitis Syros Distillery is a small gem on the island of Syros and is the result of a long family tradition in distilling. The raw materials come only from local products of the surrounding Cycladic islands, with the best results coming from grapes from arid regions that have a huge aromatic potential that is finally reflected in the final product.
The Assyrtiko, Monemvasia and Serfiotiko varieties have their due, but the final touch is always given by proper aging in oak barrels. The secret lies in the use of dehydrated seawater, in an attempt to exploit all the natural resources of a Cycladic island!
The aging takes place in French oak barrels which were used to mature the Vinsanto sweet wine, while the imprint of the aging on each spirit is different and is influenced by factors, such as the burning of the barrels, but mainly by the climatic conditions of the island each year. Each bottle has a very unique label with a 4-digit number. The first 2 digits indicate the year of distillation and the next 2 indicate the years the tsipouro has been aged in the barrel.
The aged tsipouro Makryonitis 2001 is a very high-quality spirit that you must try.
In the glass, it has a deep golden color. Aromas of ripe peach, orange peel, roasted almonds, fresh vanilla, honey, honeycomb, raisin, and clove.
In the mouth, it is rich with aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers, hazelnuts, honeysuckle, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, and hints of tobacco.
