If Bordeaux still means powerful reds to you, it’s time for a delicious surprise. The acclaimed Chateau Ferran Blanc 2023 comes from Pessac-Léognan, the only Bordeaux appellation home to Grand Cru estates producing both outstanding red and white wines. Awarded 92 points by James Suckling, this is a wine that perfectly captures the elegance and complexity of great Bordeaux Blanc yet remains remarkably accessible.
Located in the village of Martillac, Château Ferran traces its history back to the 17th century and the statesman Robert de Ferran, from whom the estate takes its name. In the 18th century, the property came into the hands of the renowned philosopher Montesquieu, who planted its first vines. Owned by the same family since 1880, the château combines a rich heritage with a forward-looking vision. Over the last thirty years, significant investments have transformed and modernised the vineyard while safeguarding its exceptional natural surroundings. Sustainability, biodiversity, and careful stewardship of the land are now central to the estate's identity and long-term commitment to quality.
Chateau Ferran Blanc 2023 is a blend of 83% Sauvignon Blanc and 17% Sémillon sourced exclusively from the estate's vineyards. Low yields ensure excellent fruit concentration, while fermentation and ageing for nine months in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new, add texture, depth and subtle oak complexity. Ageing on fine lees further enhances the wine's richness and structure.
