Sometimes you do not need to say much about a wine, as it says it all on its own, as Forster Pechstein Riesling 2015 Villa Wolf does. It is a Riesling and on top of that, Grand Cru Single Vineyard that has been aged for 5 years! If you are a fan of Riesling you have understood from the beginning what we are talking about and you have already put it in your basket!
If you love dense and complex white wines then, yes, this wine is for you. Whether you like Riesling or not, you will love this one! Villa Wolf Winery is the second winery of Ernst Loosen, who could not be satisfied with Weingut Dr. Loosen in the Mosel and so decided to conquer Pfalz, too. Pfalz borders with Alsace and has a completely different terroir and wine style from Mosel. Specifically, the Forster Pechstein vineyard is considered one of the Grand Crus of the area for centuries and gives elegant wines with very intense mineral character and concentration.
Its name means black stone that refers to the black basalt of the soil that is responsible for the intense mineral character of its wines. The special element in the Forster Pechstein Riesling 2015 is that it fermented with ambient yeasts in an old 1000 lt barrel, matured there, with its fine lees, for 12 months, and then it was simply forgotten… to be released 4 years later! During this time it managed to develop the petrol character that you love so much and to unfold its complex personality so that you do not have to wait even a day longer.
On the other hand, if you can wait, Forster Pechstein Riesling 2015 Villa Wolf will be even better! But, can you?
