Why do we love it?

Serifiotiko, means "from Serifos", but this one from Ousyra Winery comes from Syros island! Yes, the beautiful Cycladic island has taken its place into the wine map, by giving more and more interesting wines.

The special name of the winery means happiness and reflects the happiness of the couple, behind the winery, who met and fell in love at Syros island. Edward left Scotland and stayed forever on the beautiful island of Cyclades, Syros. Dedicated himself to the emergence of the terroir of Syros and the Cycladic rare grape varieties. Serifiotiko from Ousyra winery is an excellent sample of the rare and special Serfiotiko variety. Very demanding variety and difficult to manage but with the strict handling of the experienced, Spyros Zoumboulis (oenologist at La Tour Melas, if that rings any bells) gave its best character. Impressive fruit purity, saltiness, and refreshing acidity make up one of this year's hits.

Tastes Like

It has pale lemon color with green hues.

Distinctive nose with aromas of lemon, grapefruit, peach, green apple and quince accompanied by mineral hints. The sensation of wet stone and sea breeze travels you to Cyclades.

On the palate, it has moderate body and refreshing acidity. Aromas of juicy melon, white peach, bitter orange, banana, lemon and salty, savory notes of minerality. Enjoyable citrus aftertaste that lasts!

Pair it with fried fish, seafood and chicken dishes with lemon sauce.

 

Steamed mussels with white wine and black pepper

  • 1 kg mussels, whole (with shell) cleaned and scraped. Alternatively prefer frozen
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 clove of garlic chopped
  • 3 tbsps. of finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 glass of white wine, preferably Assyrtiko

Place the mussels without water in a large saucepan or pan on a high heat and add plenty of pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until they open. Throw away mussels that will remain closed. Pour in the wine and leave it for a 1 minute in the heat until the excess of liquids is reduced.

Drain the mussels and hold the liquid left in the pan. Place the mussels in a deep platter. Drain the liquors from the mussels and pass them through a cheesecloth and then put them in a small bowl. Add the parsley to the bowl, stir, pour the mixture over the mussels, and serve.
