Why do we love it?

"Psarades" (means fishermen in Greek) climbed to 480 meters and they are doing miracles! Yes, as you may have realized, we are talking about Psarades Dafni of Lyrarakis Winery.

The Cretan variety was rescued by Lyrarakis family back in the 90s. The variety took its name from the laurel aromas it bears. Botanical character, refreshing acidity and good aging potential make Dafni a very special variety and we are very happy that it still exists. The emblematic Lyrarakis winery is dedicated to the local treasures of the island and recently make wines based on single varieties from single vineyard sites. So, Dafni comes from the vineyard site "Psarades".

If you keep it 2-3 years, it will unfold its botanical temperament even more.

Tastes Like

Every sip is an autumn walk in prairies with Chios tangerines, these yellowish ones that pierce your nose with their aromas. Around those, there are some laurels and blossomed lemon trees that are intoxicating.

Lyrarakis Winery

Lyrarakis Winery was founded in 1966 in Heraklion, Crete, by brothers Manolis and Sotiris, making it one of the oldest on the island. Today, it is run by the second generation, who continued the mission of reviving local grape varieties, achieving impressive results. Vidiano, Plyto, Thrapsathiri, and Dafni are cultivated organically, with fertilizers derived from the organic waste of the winery, resulting in truly unique outcomes.

PAIR IT

Pair it with a slow-cooked rabbit with rosemary, fennel fritters, or steamed mussels with turmeric.

Steamed mussels with turmeric

  • 700 g mussels
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 Garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp.  turmeric
  • 1 glass of white wine
  • Olive oil
  • Salt (Optional)
  • Pepper

Wash the mussels under plenty of water, removing the sand and seaweed and thoroughly cleaning the shell.

Saute the onion and garlic and add the mussels. Then add 1 tablespoon sweet turmeric and one glass of wine. Let the alcohol evaporate a little and cover the pot to boil for 5'-6 '.

Agitate the pot, remove the cover and serve on a deep dish.

Add freshly ground pepper (salt is optional) and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme.

TIP: During the wash, throw the open mussels. After cooking,  throw the closed mussels.
