Marqués de Murrieta is one of Spain’s oldest and most historic wineries, founded in 1852. Its founder, Luciano de Murrieta, learned winemaking techniques in the great châteaux of Bordeaux, where he discovered that oak barrels were essential for producing exceptional, age‑worthy wines like those of Bordeaux. Upon returning to Rioja, he became the first to use oak barrels for aging his wines, permanently influencing the region’s style. From the very beginning, the winery’s wines ranked among Spain’s very best — a legacy that continues to this day. Just look at the scores below and you’ll see why!
