Garalis Terra Ambera Amphora is a “natural” orange wine made exclusively from Muscat of Alexandria, using time-honored ancestral winemaking methods. Fermentation and aging take place in a restored amphora—originally unearthed from a private home and now buried in the earth at the winery—allowing the wine to develop its character in harmony with nature.
Sourced from certified organic, dry-farmed vineyards on the sun-drenched island of Lemnos, the grapes thrive in the region’s arid climate and rocky soils. These challenging conditions yield small quantities of fruit, but with remarkable intensity and quality. Every grape is hand-harvested, ensuring a meticulous selection process that honors the land and the tradition behind this unique wine.
The winemaking process is entirely natural: the grapes remain in contact with their skins for four months, inside the amphora, with no temperature control. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with ambient yeasts, and the wine is neither filtered nor stabilized, undergoing no intervention except for a minimal addition of sulfites (50 mg/L) before bottling. The result is a wine with a brilliant amber hue and aromas of quince, lemon zest, dough, dried flowers, mushrooms, and herbs.
Garalis Terra Ambera Amphora is a stunning expression of Muscat, with this unique method of vinification giving the wine a more earthy and gastronomic character that suits it beautifully.
