Aalto Ribera del Duero 2023 is proof that Ribera del Duero can produce wines with the impressive power of a blockbuster and the elegance of a Grand cru. Bearing the hallmark signature of Mariano García, this captivating red showcases all the richness and authority that have made Ribera del Duero famous. Its charms were not lost on the critics either, with 93 points from James Suckling and a superb 94 points from both Robert Parker and Tim Atkin MW.
In 1999, Mariano García, the man who devoted 30 years to shaping the soul of the legendary Vega Sicilia wines, decided to write his own chapter. Together with Javier Zaccagnini, he founded Aalto with a clear vision: to showcase what Tinto Fino, otherwise known as Tempranillo, can truly achieve when sourced from old vines and crafted with the sole purpose of expressing the place that gives it life. Today, the estate extends across 110 hectares, scattered throughout nine villages in Burgos. Many of the vines are old, between 60 and 90 years of age, planted in soils ranging from stony red clay to limestone and sandy plots.
Aalto Ribera del Duero 2023 is a wine made from 100% Tinto Fino, sourced from both younger and older vines aged between 40 and 80 years, and matured for 18 months in French (85%) and American (15%) oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The result combines colossal structure wrapped in a velvety cloak, with countless promises for the future.
