SORRY GUYS, WE RAN OUT OF THIS ONE

A diva is born!

Why do we love it?

This is probably the winery that has managed to win the attention of audiences and critics more than any other after Robert Parker's and his team’s enthusiastic reviews. Rightfully, if you ask us, as the insistence of Theodoros Orkopoulos on the absolute expression of the terroir and the local varieties is reflected in all his wines. Daphne Daphne 2014 of Domaine Foivos could not be an exception! From old mavrodaphne vines, on the slopes of Ainos in Cephalonia, the grapes are harvested carefully. They then ferment and enter French oak barrels until the wine is ready to reach our glass. Unbeatable fruit expression and concentration, "flattered" by the discreet touch of the barrel. The result is a wine that literally pulls you from the nose.

Forget what you have in your mind about sweet, "carnival" versions of the variety that unfortunately became synonymous with cheap sweet red wine. Mavrodaphne in the dry version gives super-impressive wines, with incredible elegance and complexity. This is exactly the case with Daphne Daphne 2014 by Domaine Foivos.

Tastes Like

It has medium ruby color in the glass.

In the nose, it magnetizes with its intense floral elements: Violet and nightgown in generous doses, steal the show from the first moment. Cherry, cranberry, framboise jam, sour cherry, fresh plum, nutmeg and cedar notes complete the attractive fragrant bouquet.

In the palate it is medium bodied, with moderate, refined tannins, refreshing acidity and medium (+) aromatic intensity. Cherry, raspberry, sour cherry, black tea, spices, nutmeg, candied violet petals and coffee notes won’t leave anyone untouched! The flower aftertaste will  remain in your mouth for long!

Lamb fillet with coriander and couscous salad

For the lamb

  • 1 tbsp. coriander, crushed
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 3 tbsps. olive oil
  • 900gr lamb fillet

For the salad

  • 200gr couscous
  • 2 zucchinis, cut into thin strips
  • 200gr (7oz) mixed tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 bunch of parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 lemons, juice, plus 1 tablespoon lemon zest, and lemon slices for serving

Mix coriander, paprika and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Brush the lamb with it and let it marinate for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 200C. Heat the remaining olive oil in a pan and brown the lamb on all sides. Place them in a baking pan, over baking paper, cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil the last 3 minutes.

Boil 200 ml of water in a pot. Remove it from the heat and add the couscous in a ratio of about 1 to 1. Let it about 5’ to absorb the water and to soften and it is ready. Let it cool slightly and then add zucchinis, tomatoes, parsley, lemon juice and zest. Add salt and pepper and stir until all ingredients are mixed. Taste it and add lemon or pepper according to your preferences. To serve, cut the lamb in slices and serve with the salad and slices of lemon
