The 2023 Garnacha from Ver Sacrum just landed in our hands, and we’re blown away by its origin, expressiveness, finesse, fruit expression, and — yes — its incredible price. Just imagine: back in 2018, it was named Argentina’s Best Value by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. And now, the 94-point score from James Suckling is just the cherry on top!
Eduardo Soler, a visionary and restless creator, founded Ver Sacrum in 2012 with the goal of cultivating Mediterranean varieties like Grenache, Monastrell, Carignan, Roussanne, Marsanne, and Mencía in Argentina’s unique terroir. A former mountaineer and rescue team member in Aspen and Mendoza, Soler drew inspiration for the winery’s name from the ancient Roman ritual Ver Sacrum (“Sacred Spring”), where young people left their homelands to found new communities — bringing vines and hope for a better future. That spirit of renewal and creativity lives in every bottle of Ver Sacrum.
For Garnacha 2023 from Ver Sacrum, grapes come from a single vineyard in Los Chacayes IG, Uco Valley. Winemaking begins with semi-carbonic maceration for 4 days, using 25% whole clusters. Fermentation is carried out with ambient yeasts in a 3,000-liter concrete egg. Half the wine ages for 7 months in concrete eggs, while the other half matures in used large French oak barrels. The result is a wine bursting with expressive red fruit aromas, floral character, and unmatched elegance.
Ver Sacrum Garnacha 2023 is the kind of wine that wins you over from the moment it hits the glass.
