Kloof Street Swartland Rouge 2020 is one of the most characteristic and expressive red blends from Mullineux Family Wines — a winery that, as we speak, is ranked among the top estates in South Africa. The 2020 vintage stood out for its balance, freshness, and pristine fruit expression, reaffirming the estate’s remarkable quality and upward trajectory.
Swartland is one of South Africa’s most dynamic and up‑and‑coming wine regions, known for its old vines, poor soils, and hot, dry climate that produces intensely concentrated fruit, both aromatically and structurally. Mullineux Family Wines farms all its vineyards using sustainable practices, reflecting the region’s respect for nature and authenticity of expression.
Kloof Street Swartland Rouge 2020 is a blend of 69% Syrah, 15% Tinta Barocca, 11% Grenache, 4% Cinsault, and 1% Carignan, with the fruit sourced from seven different vineyard parcels planted on soils of varying composition — a factor that contributes significantly to the wine’s layered complexity. During fermentation, 60% whole clusters and ambient yeasts are used. The wine then matures for 11 months in 3rd and 4th‑fill French oak barrels, allowing the fruit to remain bright and vibrant while the oak adds subtle spicy nuances without overwhelming the wine.
