Lagotopos Mavrotragano 2021 from Domaine Michaelidi is yet another testament to the idea that wine knows no boundaries. This Santorini-born grape variety reveals its finest character in the northern terroir of Drama. For many, Michaelidis’ Mavrotragano is the winery’s standout wine. We simply challenge you to try it and see for yourself.
Originally from Cyclades, Mavrotragano found a new home in the fertile soils of Kyrgia when, in 2010, Iordanis Michaelidis took a bold step: to transplant this rare and demanding variety to the cooler, mountainous region of Drama. This wasn’t a random decision—it was an act of faith in the land, the climate, and the potential of the grape. With low yields and meticulous care, Mavrotragano at Lagotopos rippened slowly, developing depth, intensity, and concentration. The precious juice was aged for 18 to 22 months in small French oak barriques, then bottled unfiltered—ready to captivate you.
Production is extremely limited—just 930 bottles—so you know what to do.
