Naoussa 2017 from Argatia Winery has rightfully earned its place among the pantheon of traditionally styled Xinomavros. Its combination of tomato‑driven, herbal character, impressive ageing potential, and timeless quality makes it an ideal choice for the most demanding “Xinomavro enthusiasts.” And because we count ourselves among them, this year we managed to secure a few bottles from the outstanding 2017 vintage—just for your cellar!
Argatia Winery is a small, family‑run estate that swears by the indigenous varieties of the region and is dedicated to expressing them authentically, with Xinomavro as the undisputed protagonist. The winery was created in 2004 by Panagiotis Georgiadis and Charoula Spinthiropoulou, two highly respected professionals in Greek viticulture and oenology. Their philosophy is rooted in organic farming and low yields, with no excesses or heavy‑handed interventions in the cellar—something that you can definitely taste.
Naoussa Argatia 2017 comes from selected vineyard sites in Rodochori and Giannakochori and follows classic red vinification, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures in old French oak barrels for 8 to 12 months, while 20% of the blend remains in stainless steel. Afterwards, it is bottled and “rests” in the winery’s cellar until it is fully ready to charm you with its complexity and generous character.
Naoussa 2017 from Argatia is the purebred, tomato‑driven racing Xinomavro for those who seek an authentic and uncompromising expression of the variety.
