Stamna Mavrodaphne from Sotiriou Winery is an expression of land, heritage, and personal vision.
Grown in the unique microclimate of Messolonghi, this modern interpretation of Mavrodaphne breaks away from the sweet wine stereotype traditionally associated with the variety. Notably, it impressed the judges at Great Greek Wines, earning a well-deserved distinction.
In one of Greece’s lesser-known yet highly promising wine regions, Messolongi, Dimitris Sotiriou and his family established a small, quality-driven winery with a clear mission: to highlight authentic Greek grape varieties through unwavering dedication to quality.
With the family’s eldest son, Panagiotis, having studied oenology in Bordeaux, Sotiriou family chose to cultivate just Greek varieties like the renowned Malagousia, the dynamic Mavrodaphne, and the rare, nearly forgotten Avgoustiolidi.
Today, Panagiotis leads the winery, and Stamna Mavrodaphne – Sotiriou Winery is his own creation. It’s a dry Mavrodaphne from the namesake vineyard Stamna, crafted without any oak aging.
Try it — its juicy, fruit-forward character will win you over!
