Thanasis Papaioannou from Domaine Papaioannou is a rare, small-production experimental red that showcases, once again, the dedication and unique touch of the legendary winemaker from Nemea. A truly distinctive wine made from the grape variety that bears his name and one that embodies many of the qualities that made his wines so beloved by Greek wine lovers.
The Papaioannou family winery in Ancient Nemea has been dedicated to viticulture and winemaking since 1876, while also being a pioneer in grape variety research and organic farming. This wine is a direct expression of that spirit of experimentation: the Thanasis Papaioannou variety was developed in collaboration with the Athens Vine Institute in 2007. At the winery, it undergoes traditional red winemaking, followed by 24 months of ageing in oak barrels and a further 6 months in bottle before release, allowing the wine to develop depth and complexity.
One of the most unique and rare wines of the Greek vineyard, and certainly one worth discovering.
