Trois Cépages 2023 Domaine du Pélican is a rare case where three grape varieties from Jura—Pinot Noir, Poulsard, and Trousseau—are combined. This historic wine was one of the winery’s first reds, where the two brilliant producers decided to blend the three grapes. It’s a red wine that overflows with finesse and personality, and the fact that it’s backed by Guillaume d’Angerville of the renowned Burgundy estate is a strong guarantee of quality!
Domaine du Pélican is located in a beautiful corner of Montigny-les-Arsures, just 1 km outside Arbois, and began its journey in 2012. Arbois is one of the most important regions in Jura, famous for its complex and characterful wines. It is also a hub for many great biodynamic and “natural” producers. Behind Domaine du Pélican are two top winemakers: François Duvivier and Guillaume d’Angerville, from the famous Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay, Burgundy. They recognized the potential of the region and its indigenous varieties and decided to invest in Jura. Naturally, their obsession with finesse, fruit purity, and perfection—hallmarks of their Burgundy wines—is also present here. From just 15 hectares of vineyards, including some pre-phylloxera vines, they craft wines that stand out for their authenticity, expressiveness, and exemplary balance. One such wine is Trois Cépages 2023 Arbois Domaine du Pélican.
Trois Cépages 2023 Domaine du Pélican is a blend of three red varieties from biodynamically farmed vineyards: Pinot Noir (60%), Trousseau (35%), and Poulsard (5%). Its name literally means “three varieties.” The three grapes are co-fermented, in a mix of Burgundy barrels (50%) and large foudres (50%). After blending, it matures for about a year in barriques. The result is a wine that is deep, complex, and exquisitely elegant!
Guillaume d’Angerville’s presence in Jura was initially met with hesitation. However, his dedication to the terroir, history, and tradition of the region was soon appreciated, and his vision to contribute to the global recognition of Jura’s great and unique wines became a reality!
