XINOMAVRO 2009 - DOMAINE TATSIS

Normally we shouldn’t need to tell you much about this wine. The two usual suspects from Goumenissa are doing their thing once more. The Tatsis brothers decided to shake the wine world and you know that when they do, it's good to be somewhere close.

Xinomavro 2009 – Domaine Tatsis has just arrived and is one of the best wines we have experienced in recent years from the top Greek variety.

It all started with an old, abandoned Xinomavro vineyard in Gerakona, which Pericles and Stelios longed for years. At one point they managed to get their hands on it. They harvested it. The old and dry vines with minimal interventions (they are biodynamic to the bone) gave a minimal but incredible concentration and finesse juice. It fermented with native yeasts and remained in oak barrels for 12 months. It was then bottled and simply forgotten in the cellar of the estate. Until today.

And now they decided it was the right time for it. The moment when you try it and get to reconsider anything you knew so far. Xinomavro 2009 – Domaine Tatsis is a complexity bomb in the glass with a splendid structure in the mouth and tannins that show that this xinomavro does not seem to get tired soon.

Our advice? If you are interested, take at least 2 bottles of the few ones. One for now and one for 10 years from now!

It has medium ruby color ​​with grena hues in the glass.

Nose riveting, of moderate (+) intensity with dominant aromas of dried strawberries, sun dried tomatoes, marjoram, olive, black tea, musk and leather. After a few seconds hints of pomegranate, cranberry, paprika, pepper and mushrooms  jump out from the glass.

The mouth is moderate in body, with moderate (+) acidity and moderate but well-worked tannins. All in absolute balance. Strawberry, cherry, pepper, paprika, tea, tomato paste, olive leaves, black tea, rosemary, marjoram, lavender and dried mushroom form a complex and intoxicating bouquet. Delicious, savory aftertaste
