If you like exuberant red wines, with dense ripe fruit, sweet oaky character and chocolate notes, then you can stop looking because we would like to present you the Lapis Luna Zinfandel which is all the above and so much more.

Lapis Luna Winery, in Mendocino on the North Coast of California, makes wines with an obsession with perfection and excellent value for money ratio. Their motto is what sets them apart: we offer such a rare and exceptional experience as the blue moon, with every bottle. There is an expression in English, once in a blue moon, which means that something is as unique and rare as the blue moon. The blue moon is the second full moon that rarely occurs in one month, as the moon fills every 27 days. After taking this astronomy lesson we are moving to the main course.

Lapis Luna Zinfandel consists of a blend of 80% Zinfandel and 20% Sangiovese. Long-term extraction is responsible for the deep color and the impressive structure. The wine is then fermented in stainless-steel tanks and aged for 10 months in oak barrels, 10% French and 90% American.

Tastes Like

It has deep purple color and intoxicating aromas of plum, cherry jam, blackberry and sour cherry. Hints of chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, pepper, cinnamon and coconut complete the set.

In the mouth it has medium (+) body, medium tannins and discreet acidity. Ripe black fruits such as berry, plum and cherry are mixed with notes of tobacco, cocoa, vanilla, licorice and bacon.

Beef stew with red wine

  • 1 kg of boneless beef cut into bits
  • 4 tbsps. flour
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tbsps. olive oil
  • 1 cup of dry red wine
  • 1 cube beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp. dry thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 pack of small fresh mushrooms, whole
  • baby carrots
  • salt
  • pepper



Wipe the meat with kitchen paper to absorb excess moisture. Stir in a bowl 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, paprika and pepper and sprinkle the meat with the flour mixture.

Sautee the meat in hot olive oil in moderate to strong heat, stirring frequently,  for 4-6 minutes or until it acquires a golden brown color. Remove the meat from the pot. Add the red wine, stirring well to incorporate with the meat residues from the bottom of the pot.

Put the meat back in the pot and add the broth, thyme, bay leaf, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Once it starts boiling, cover the pot, lower the heat in half and allow the meat to cook for about an hour, stirring occasionally. You can accompany your meat with wild rice.
