Megas Oenos of Domaine Skouras is exactly what its name declares — a great wine!
If you add to that 10 years of bottle ageing and the fantastic 2016 vintage, then you understand that things get even more serious. It’s no coincidence that it won a Gold medal at this year’s Thessaloniki Wine Trophy and was distinguished as the best red wine of the competition! And if that’s not enough, let me tell you that when we tasted it at the office, there were almost knives out over who would take the bottle home. Yes, it’s that good!
Domaine Skouras, just outside Argos, is one of the most beautiful wineries in the country, with an impressive tasting room and an underground cellar. A walk among the bottles and artworks gives you the sense that the Skouras family leaves nothing to chance.
Megas Oenos was George Skouras’ first wine and one of the first Greek red wines to combine Greek and international varieties. The blend consists of Agiorgitiko (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), and it ages for 18 months in French oak barrels (80% new). Incredible concentration together with elegance create a wine that, with age, evolves into a giant strongly reminiscent of Bordeaux!
We secured only a few bottles from the winery’s cellar, so you know what to do if you don’t want to miss out on this amazing wine!
