Why do we love it?
Have you ever tasted a rose wine with the astronomical ratings, like 93pts from Wine Enthusiast and 95pts from James Suckling? Probably not, but if you hurry, you might catch one of the last Roc d'Aubaga Terroir Al Limit collectible bottles. And by last and collectible we mean it since it's the last year that the winery is producing it.
The Terroir Al Limit winery in Torroja, Priorat is a creation of Eben Sadie and Dominik Huber. The two friends met in 2001 and their passion for wine pushed them to create a winery with a very different philosophy from the rest of Priorat. The biodynamic approach, minimal winemaking interventions, and philosophy, very reminiscent of that of Burgundy, are the basis of their wines. The super rare Roc d’Aubaga is a blend of Garnacha Blanca (80%), Garnacha Gris (10%), and Garnacha Tinta (10%). The three varieties are co-fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is made with red vinification and so the must ferments along with the skins. This is how it gets its darker color and structure. It matures in 54-liter glass demijohns for 6 months and then it is bottled unfiltered.
Roc d’Aubaga Terroir Al Limit is a rose wine with a red wine's psychology, that certainly doesn’t look like any other.
