XERICO - TENTENUBLO WINES
Roberto Oliván is perhaps Rioja's biggest star! Tentenublo Xérico is produced from grapes from different plots, aged 15 to 50 years, at an altitude of 550-700 meters. It is organically grown and the blend consists of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Viura. The grapes (20% whole bunches) are traditionally pressed by foot and the fermentation for each parcel is done with natural yeasts separately, so as to capture each terroir very specifically. Concrete and stainless steel tanks of different sizes are used, and after malolactic fermentation, aging follows for 7 months. In the end they are all mixed together in a large concrete tank, where they stay there for 2 months before bottling.
AL-MUVEDRE - TELMO RODRIGUEZ
Spain's formidable child, scion of the family behind the iconic Bodegas Remelluri, Telmo Rodriguez is responsible for this super value for money wine. Al Muvedre is from 100% Monastrell which ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks. After fermentation, it is added and matures with its lees for 6-8 months.
LA BRUJA DE ROZAS - COMANDO G
La Bruja de Rozas 2020 Comando G is a wine of shocking finesse that can not fail to impress you! Scores inconceivably high scores every year due to its inconceivable value for money ratio and its incredible finesse. The 2020 vintage got 94pts from Robert Parker! The vines aged 50-80 years grow at an altitude of 850 meters, on granite soil. Harvesting is done by hand and inspired by Burgundy, Granacha ferments with whole bunches. The fermentation is done with native yeasts and then the wine matures in oak tanks for 9 months. It is bottled unfiltered and with minimal additional interventions (otherwise what kind of commandos would they be?).
LΑ CASILLA BODAL - BODEGAS PONCE
La Casilla Bobal Bodegas Ponce is the red wine you will drink all the time! Why? But of course, because it is juicy, fruity with silky tannins but also because the experts of the Spanish vineyard in Guia Penin rated it with 93 pts! La Casilla comes from organically grown vines, aged 35-70 years old. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, in whole bunches, in oak tanks of 4,500 liters. It is then transferred to 600-liter oak barrels where it ages for 10 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered and without any other intervention.
RIOJA CRIANZA - VINA REAL
Here is the thing with Rioja Crianza. It has fruit (plenty), aging in American and French barrels, complexity and velvety tannins. As you can see, at this truly incredible price, it has the perfect package! The wine ages in American and French barrels, used and with a mild burn. The 13-14 months in the barrel come and emphasize the red fruit, giving it a chocolate dimension that goes well! The classic blend, consists of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo and musks cherry and strawberry!
COM TU - CLOS MOGADOR
Com Tu Clos Mogador is the ultimate expression of Garnacha by the hands of the great Rene Barbier, the man who changed Priorat forever, its history, and its wines. Every year since the first time it was released, it scores (this year 93 pts by Robert Parker!) always high. The wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak tanks and then aged for 18 months in oak foudres. The result is a wine that uniquely expresses the terroir of its hometown but also the elegant and spicy character of Garnacha, just as Rene wanted it!
