This bottling of the Heaven Hill distillery is a tribute to Elijah Craig, the legendary Virginia Baptist preacher who first matured his bourbon in burnt oak barrels. In fact, in 1798 he was found guilty along with 177 other neighbors of illegal distillation and was fined $140.
Barrel Proof is Bourbon in its purest form. This means it is uncut, straight from the barrel, without any filtering. Each bottle is labeled with a unique batch number.
In our glass the caramel color is impressive. Intense on the nose with a lot of rye, oak, and leather. Thick and greasy in the mouth, with flavors of cinnamon, rye, barrel, vanilla, and chocolate.
