The GlenAllachie 2014 Sherry Oloroso is yet another member of the GlenAllachie Sherry Series. This one has matured in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks. Mocha, cinnamon, coffee, dried apricots, toasted hazelnuts, and a sweet honeyed finish are definitely characteristics you don’t come across often!
GlenAllachie is one of the most famous single malt whisky distilleries in Speyside, Aberlour, founded in 1967. It specializes in the production of blended whiskies, with spirits that have left their mark in history. Billy Walker, the master blender with over 50 years of experience, carefully selects the casks used for maturation, ensuring unique results.
Oloroso Sherry, unlike Fino and Amontillado, matures in casks without the ‘flor’ protection (a thin layer of yeast), which results in a darker color and a more robust flavor due to its oxidative maturation. So, the GlenAllachie 2014 Sherry Oloroso, after passing through these casks, not only takes on a darker color but also gains a fuller, richer mouthfeel compared to the others in the same range.
The GlenAllachie 2014 Sherry Oloroso maintains the classic GlenAllachie style, enhanced by the oxidative character of Oloroso, resulting in a complex outcome with freshness, intoxicating aromas, and the sweetness of sherry. It is bottled without added coloring and without chill filtration.
On the nose, it has strong aromas of heather honey, mocha, and dried apricots, accompanied by hints of butter, cinnamon, pastry cream, and marzipan.
On the palate, dark chocolate, honeycomb, and butterscotch dominate, followed by dried red berries, ginger, damsons, roasted apples, and brown sugar.
70cl – 48% ABV.
