Gentle Beast from Lost Lake Distillery is rare, distinctive, and unforgettable. It’s the first aged spirit ever made from Mouchtaro, and it’s crafted by the Zacharias brothers, who’ve already proven they can work magic with this unique variety.
Lost Lake Distillery was founded in 1999, when the Zacharias family decided to build their distillery in the fertile plains of Kopaida, near the legendary “Lost Lake” that inspired its name. The same family behind Ktima Mouson (Muses Estate) is also behind this project—so exceptional grapes and top-tier distillation were a given from the start.
The story of Gentle Beast begins with Grandma Stella, the first in the family to plant the seed of distilling in the minds of what is now the third generation. She used to make a strawberry spirit with no added sugar, believing the fruit gave her drink its unique aroma, color, and irresistible charm.
Years later, that inspiration came to life as Gentle Beast—a name that’s no accident. While it may be a beast in terms of alcohol content, it’s soft, smooth, and noble at heart.
This second release in the Rare Collection (look for the “02” on the label) is made from indigenous Mouchtaro grapes and organic strawberries, aged together in oak barrels from day one. (And if you haven’t yet, you must try the Hefebrand from Lost Lake too!)
Gentle Beast is bottled straight from the barrel, unfiltered, to preserve its full aromatic character: ripe red fruits like strawberry and blackberry, caramel, vanilla, oak, cocoa, and warm spices like cinnamon and clove.
It’s full-bodied and rich. The sweetness of dried red fruits, plum, honey, and pepper blends beautifully with its tannic structure, creating a bold yet elegant drinking experience.
