Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt is the flagship single malt of the Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai, founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, the “father” of Japanese whisky.
It is produced from lightly peated and unpeated malted barley, distilled in pot stills using a method that imparts a more fruity and refined character. It is then aged mainly in sherry casks and some bourbon barrels, adding depth and complexity.
Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt appeals both to those who wish to discover the Japanese whisky tradition and to experienced connoisseurs who appreciate balance and complexity.
On the nose, it offers aromas of white wildflowers, apple, pear, banana, lemon, and vanilla, accompanied by sweet honey, malt, beeswax, licorice, and subtle hints of ginger and delicate smoke. On the palate, it begins with a gentle sweetness, followed by mandarin, pear, banana, milk chocolate, and ginger. It has a silky texture, a balanced fruity taste, and a long, spicy finish.
