Tokinoka Black Sherry Finish by Eigashima Shuzo (Akashi Distillery) is a whisky that dares you to taste it, if you want to understand how Japanese finesse meets Scottish technique. Depth, complexity, and three types of casks give it a unique character that captivates!
The White Oak Distillery, also known as Eigashima Shuzo, was founded in 1888 in the city of Akashi near Kobe, and is one of the oldest in Japan. In 1919, it became the first to receive an official license to distill spirits in the country, while in 1984 it began systematic whisky production in a dedicated facility. Today, it is considered one of the most historic and respected distilleries in Japan, with small-scale yet high-quality production that has earned international acclaim for the balance and elegance of its spirits.
Tokinoka Black Sherry Finish was created by master blender Akito Ueda and consists of 50% malt and 50% grain whisky. It matures in three types of casks—ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and new oak—and then spends an additional six months in Oloroso sherry casks, acquiring depth and complexity.
On the nose, it reveals aromas of lemon, orange, bitter orange, dried apricot, and blossom honey. On the palate, it has a creamy texture with flavors of vanilla, pineapple, toasted wood, licorice, and cinnamon. The finish is medium in length and delicately peppery.
