Why do we love it?

Before not too many years, it came close to extinction. Malagouzia not only managed to survive, but it conquered Greece and now has started its journey to the world.

Yellow-green, with explosive aromas and elegant mouth, the favorite Greek variety proves daily that it is world-class selection, and its wines seem to be gaining space on the world wine map.

Claudia Papayianni’s daughter is called Alexandra. That’s how she named her favorite white wine. Alexandra by Domaine Claudia Papayianni deservedly is among the best Malagouzias in Greece and it confirms it every year.

It partly owes it to the sea breeze that cools down the extremely hot summer afternoons, giving the fruit the time needed to ripen perfectly. By staying on the lees at low temperatures for two months with regular batonage, all fruity varietal characteristics pass to the wine, adding vitality and freshness.

Tastes Like

Light lemon color in the glass with green hues, indicative of freshness.

Explosive citrus aromas are joined by apricot, lime and lemon flowers in a full of freshness bouquet. Strong herbal and vegetal notes in the form of peppermint, chamomile, green pepper and grass foster a sense of vitality.

In the mouth rich, with refreshing acidity and light, subtle sweetness. Green feeling continues in the mouth accompanying the fruit perfectly. Mint, apricot and green pepper remain in the mouth in the long-length aftertaste.

Combine with fresh salads, tart with zucchini and mint, pasta with seafood sauce or a Pad Thai.

Whole meal penne with Avocado and Anthotiro cheese

  • 500 g whole meal penne pasta
  • 350 g mature avocado
  • 2 fresh onions
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 100 g strained yogurt
  • 150 g anthotiro cheese
  • 1 chili pepper finely chopped
  • Fresh cilantro
  • 2 strands of fresh basil
  • 1 tsp. of cumin
  • Olive oil, salt, pepper

 

In salted water boil the pasta until they are cooked al dente.

At the same time, in a blender put half of the avocado, cilantro, garlic and onion bulb, 30 ml. of olive oil and a little water from the pasta and blend it. Check the seasoning and add some more salt according to your preferences.

Then, after draining the pasta, transfer them to a large bowl, add the yoghurt, the rest of the avocado to small pieces, the sauce, cumin and pepper, and stir until all the ingredients are mixed well.

Finally add anthotiro, chili and basil.

Serve hot or cold, depending on your preferences.

Extra Tip!

-Replace anthotiro with cream cheese.

- If you do not want any cheese, replace it with lemon zest and lemon juice.
