In 2005, the Papageorgiou family discovered a stunning landscape in the interior of Tinos, full of ancient olive trees, orange groves, and rich wild vegetation, where old vineyards were thriving without any human intervention. This natural environment became the foundation for producing authentic wines, enhanced by the establishment of the Messarea Winery and the application of bioclimatic principles, taking winemaking to a whole new level. Today, the winery is a model of sustainable development and respect for the traditional landscape, while utilizing the force of gravity throughout the production process. Additionally, natural ventilation and the traditional technique of dry-stone construction help maintain low temperatures, ensuring that fermentation and aging occur under the best possible conditions.

Alkar Potamisi comes from vineyards in the villages of Falatados, Myrsini, and Mesi, at an altitude of approximately 350-400 meters. The 2022 vintage is considered one of the best years for grape ripening, and the whole bunch method (using entire grape clusters during pressing) was selected, imparting subtle sweet herbal notes. The must was then fermented in concrete tanks, which preserved the rich and pure fruit aroma, while its 9-month contact with the lees enhanced the wine’s structure and complexity.
