Why do we love it?

Anandale Farm Riesling 2024 from the brilliant team at Blank Canvas is a single-vineyard Riesling from the Blind River subregion of Marlborough—and it’s absolutely captivating! We first discovered it during a special and highly educational masterclass hosted at our venue, and it was a delightful surprise that stole the show. Its reputation is steadily growing, with Riesling lovers praising its balance, purity, and remarkable finesse. The 2024 vintage is one of the most expressive yet, already catching the attention of critics with 93 points from Wine Advocate and 90 from James Suckling.

Blank Canvas is a boutique winery founded by two leading figures in the wine world: Matt Thompson and Sophie Parker-Thomson MW. Matt, with over 59 vintages across New Zealand and Europe and a shelf full of awards, is recognized as one of the country’s most accomplished winemakers. Sophie, New Zealand’s youngest Master of Wine, brings experience from 21 vintages across both hemispheres. Since 2013, they’ve been managing 9 sustainable vineyards in select regions of New Zealand, crafting wines that consistently impress and score highly.

For the Anandale Farm Riesling 2024 Blank Canvas, the grapes come from the certified Sustainable Winegrowing NZ vineyard at Anandale Farm, cultivated with eco-conscious methods and a strong focus on sustainability. The cool maritime breeze lends freshness and crisp acidity to the wine, while the abundant sunshine enhances the fruit profile. Inspired by Germany’s Kabinett-style Rieslings, this wine offers impressive balance, with a gentle sweetness perfectly offset by zesty lemon-driven acidity.

You’ll love Anandale Farm Riesling 2024 from Blank Canvas whether you’re a Riesling enthusiast or simply appreciate a beautifully made wine. Just imagine how good it will be in five years if it’s already this delicious now!

ANANDALE FARM RIESLING 2024 - BLANK CANVAS

PAIR IT

Enjoy it as an aperitif, or pair it with sweet and sour chicken, Thai dishes, or oysters with ginger and chili.

Sweet and sour chicken with fresh peas and peppers

- 500 gr. chicken breast
- 200 gr. peas
- 250 gr. heirloom peppers
- 3 carrots
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 onion
- 50 gr. fresh ginger
- 2 spring onions
- 40 ml soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon of corn flour
- 30 ml olive oil or sesame oil
- 250 ml of vegetable broth
- Freshly ground pepper
- Salt
- Coriander or parsley
- 1 lime

Start by cutting the chicken into bites. Then put it in a bowl, add garlic and grated ginger, soy, corn flour and marinate for 30΄.

Cut peppers, carrots and onion into strips.

In a wok or in a large and deep pan, heat up the olive oil, saute the vegetables and peas for about 10 minutes until they soften.

Add the chicken with its marinade and continue sauteing for another 3-4 minutes.

Add honey, chopped onions, broth, pepper and season carefully since soy sauce is salty. Simmer for about 20 minutes, until the sauce sets and remove from the fire.

Serve with chopped coriander or parsley and lime.

Notes on the recipe
- We can add any seasonal vegetable that we like such as zucchini, green beans, etc.
- If we do not want to use chicken we can replace it with mushrooms, especially with shiitake that go very well in this recipe.
