Some time ago, we hosted a Chardonnay‑themed tasting. At the very end, Eva decided to have a blind tasting, so she poured a bottle of Armýra 2014 from Skouras. The crowd went wild. Some compared it to California Chardonnay, others to Australian, and everyone wanted a bottle — even though they were convinced it cost around €40. We have good news: we couldn’t track down more bottles of the 2014 vintage, but we did manage to secure a few from 2015 — and we can say with absolute confidence that the wine is phenomenal.
How did it all begin? With Eva’s long‑standing friendship with Dimitris Skouras and a late‑night blind tasting where they opened the 2014 Armýra Domaine Skouras. That moment planted the idea in our minds. A few days ago, a bottle of Armýra 2015 Domaine Skouras arrived at our office, and we instantly knew we had struck gold. The wine was so good that we could hardly believe it once retailed for roughly €12 — and that it now carries more than ten years of age. This is where the “magic” of the winery becomes obvious: the ability to excel even in its most affordable wines, combined with masterful winemaking.
For the technical details: Armýra Domaine Skouras is 95% Chardonnay and 5% Malagouzia. Thirty percent of the Chardonnay ferments in French oak barrels, where it also ages for six months on its lees. The remaining 70% ferments and matures in stainless steel tanks. These elements, together with the screw cap, preserve the wine’s freshness and its elegant reductive character — that gunflint note reminiscent of white Burgundy.
If you were at that tasting, you already know what awaits you in the bottle. If not, you absolutely need to find out.
