An Assyrtiko from the depths of Messinia!

Why do we love it?

Assyrtiko 2024 by Psaroulis Winery is a true tribute to the Messinian terroir. And when summer calls for wines with refreshing acidity, elegance, and delicate citrus aromas, this Assyrtiko doesn’t just deliver—it elevates the experience. It’s also worth noting that it was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2025 Wines and Spirits Trophy!

In the heart of Vasilada village in Messinia, grandfather Konstantinos Psaroulis began cultivating Assyrtiko in 1948, on a land that was once the bed of a prehistoric lake. In the 1980s, Michalis Psaroulis (second generation) introduced Assyrtiko vines from Santorini, and with modern vineyard techniques, the vineyard has grown to 3 hectares, making it the largest Assyrtiko vineyard in southwestern Peloponnese.

The site’s uniqueness is rooted in its history—seashells and marine fossils are still unearthed during plowing! Yields are low, and since 2013, the family’s boutique winery has proudly championed quality. Agronomists, oenologists, and now Konstantinos (third generation) blend tradition with modern technology to craft a distinctive and approachable expression of Assyrtiko.

Citrus aromas swirl around notes of sea breeze and peach, making Assyrtiko 2024 from Psaroulis Winery your new go-to summer wine.

PAIR IT

Pair it with sea bream tartare with citrus, grilled calamari with lemon-olive oil dressing, salad with mozzarella, peaches, and orange vinaigrette.

Chicken with lemon and macaroni

250g wholemeal macaroni
1200 gr. chicken drumsticks
1 onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, sliced
2 carrots, diced
2 leeks, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon thyme, finely chopped
50ml lemon juice
1100ml hot chicken broth
80ml olive oil
4 allspice berries
1 cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
Freshly ground pepper
Salt

First of all, season the chicken with salt and pepper. In a deep frying pan or casserole, put 40ml olive oil and sauté the chicken on all sides until it gets a light golden color. Add the onion, carrots, garlic, and leeks and sauté for another 2 '. Add the spices, the bay leaf, the thyme, the lemon juice, 500ml of the broth, salt, pepper and cook for 25 'on a medium heat.

Preheat the oven to 180o C.

Take the chicken out of the pot and keep it warm. Transfer the contents of the pot to a fireproof pan and add the Wholemeal macaroni, the rest of the broth, olive oil, pepper and salt as desired. Stir and bake for 20 'at 180o C. Then take the pan out of the oven, stir, add the chicken and cook for another 10 'at 180o C.

Serve it while hot with chopped parsley and parmesan if you like.
