In Avdira, Xanthi, Vourvoukeli Estate has successfully showcased the potential of Thrace by blending Greek and international grape varieties. Since 1999, with deep respect for nature and a strong belief in the land’s potential, Vourvoukeli family has cultivated carefully selected vineyards that now span over 120 acres. The region’s unique microclimate and sandy-clay soils produce wines with authentic character, structure, and complexity—firmly placing Thrace on the map of high-quality Greek wine with serious credentials.

Assyrtiko 2024 from Vourvoukeli Estate comes from an ancient vineyard and was crafted to preserve the grape’s pure fruit character, intensity, and energy. Fermentation took place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness and clarity, followed by aging on fine lees for several months, adding volume, complexity, and a silky texture to the palate.

Tastes Like

Assyrtiko 2024 from Vourvoukeli Estate has enticingly clean aromas of ripe lemon, lime, lemon verbena, and white peach which are complemented by subtle notes of wet stone and lemon leaf. The brief aging on lees adds gentle hints of dough, giving the wine depth and complexity.

On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Flavors of lime, lemon, citron, grapefruit, yuzu, sourdough, and a distinct minerality reminiscent of wet stone come together in a complex and delightful experience.

Pair it with fried shrimps, sea bass ceviche, chargrilled seabream, or chicken dishes with lemon-based sauces.

Stuffed squids

  • 1/2 kg squids
  • 2 Onions finely chopped
  • 1 leek finely chopped
  • 1 red Florina pepper
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Clean the squids by removing the plastic membrane and their skin. Remove the heads, place them separately on a plate, and chop them.

Saute onion and leek in a pan. Add the chopped tentacles to the mixture and finally the rice. Saute them together for a few minutes. Pour a glass of white wine in the pan. Pour in the mixture the chopped Florina pepper, the dill, and the mint. Add salt and pepper.

Fill the squid up to 2/3 with the filling and close it with a toothpick. Put some olive oil on the squids, salt, pepper, and a little sweet paprika. Put them in a pan, cover them with some water, wine, and olive oil and place them in a preheated oven at 200 degrees.

Bake for 35'-40 '(or until the rice is tender).
