With several years of bottle age behind it, Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 2018 has left its youthful austerity behind and now sits in a beautiful stage of evolution, where fruit, minerality and gentle bottle-aged complexity come together to create a truly impressive wine.
In Chablis, great wines are not made through flashy winemaking techniques or generous use of oak. Instead, it is the crus and the uniqueness of the soils that produce some of the finest Chardonnay wines on the planet. Montmains is one of the region’s most historic Premier Crus. Here, on steep slopes with the famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils, Chardonnay develops with laser-like precision, pure fruit expression and pronounced minerality.
Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 2018 is a Chardonnay fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks for 12 to 16 months, preserving the true character of the vineyard. The relatively warm 2018 vintage delivered greater fruit ripeness, while retaining the freshness and minerality that make the finest Chablis wines so distinctive.
