The solitude of the Rhône and 92pts from James Suckling!

Why do we love it?

Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2023 Domaine de la Solitude is a refined and juicy white wine from the heart of the Southern Rhône. The blend is Viognier-led, which explains its generous aromas of apricot and peach. It’s likely those very notes that prompted James Suckling to award it 92 points!

The grapes for Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2023 Domaine de la Solitude come from a historic vineyard owned by the Lançon family since the 17th century. The winery itself is located in the renowned lieu-dit “La Solitude”, on the edge of the La Crau plateau. La Crau is famed for its rich, limestone and clay soils, which lend the wines of the region their distinctive complexity and finesse. The estate’s story begins in the 1600s, when Helene Barberini, a descendant of a noble Tuscan family, married the vineyard owner, Claude Martin. Today, the Lançon family—now in its eighth generation, led by the talented Florent Lançon—continues to honour this legacy with deep respect for the land and a passion for crafting quality wines.

Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2023 Domaine de la Solitude is a blend of Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, and in some vintages, Marsanne. These varieties are masterfully combined to produce a balanced and aromatic white. Viognier brings rich aromas of ripe stone fruits and white blossoms; Clairette adds freshness and citrusy lift; while Grenache Blanc and Marsanne contribute body, texture, and a subtle acidity.

Expect vibrant aromas of white-fleshed peach, apricot, melon, pear, and white flowers, with delicate hints of honey and grapefruit.

On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with a silky texture and balanced acidity. Ripe stone fruits mingle with notes of orange blossom, juicy pear, and candied citrus peel. The finish is savoury and thoroughly moreish.
