Why do we love it?

Santorini Ftelos Artemis Karamolegos Winery is the third and last wine of the single vineyards series of the winery. Some say that it is the best of the three and an exuberant but at the same time classic expression of Santorini’s terroir. We will simply tell you that you definitely shouldn’t miss it!

The Winery of Artemis Karamolegos is one of the oldest on the island and has some of the oldest vines in Santorini. Specifically, Ftelos comes from a single vineyard in Fira, with vines over 150 years old. These vines have hardened due to drought, strong winds, and nutrient-poor soil and thus give very few but over-concentrated grapes.

The wine ferments and matures in stainless steel tanks, with its fine wine lees for 24 months. The wine is then transferred in oak casks for 2 months to enhance its complexity. The 2020 vintage has been released in super minimal bottles and is expected to be a blockbuster!

If you ask us about aging potential, we will tell you that you can forget Santorini Ftelos Artemis Karamolegkou Winery in your cellar, for over a decade, as long as you don’t try it first… If you try it, you will hardly forget it!

Tastes Like

Santorini Ftelos Artemis Karamolegkou Winery has pale lemon color and elegant nose, which opens up gradually. Aromas of lemon, citron, bergamot, green apple, honeysuckle, unripe apricot, lemon blossom, butter, dough, smoke, and wet stone compose a complex ensemble.

On the palate, it has full body, sharp acidity, and creamy texture. Dense fruits such as lemon, grapefruit, citron, white-fleshed nectarine, pear, green apple, sourdough, toast, and hints of honey meet on a mineral background.

PAIR IT

Pair it with grilled fish, linguine with shellfish, and bottarga, or lamb with herbs in the woodstove.

Pasta with seafood sauce

  • 1 tbsp. of olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. of paprika
  • 400g chopped tomatoes
  • 1 liter of chicken broth (from cube is fine)
  • 300 grams of macaroni
  • 240g pack of frozen seafood mix
  • some parsley leaves, finely chopped, and slices of lemon for serving

Heat the olive oil in a wok or a large pan. Add onion and garlic and saute them in moderate heat for 5 minutes until they are softened. Add paprika, tomato and broth and let the mixture boil.

Reduce the heat to simmer and add the pasta. Cook for 7 minutes by stirring occasionally to avoid sticking together. If you use a ready mix of seafood, defrost it and add it in the end, cooking for another 3 minutes. Season with salt pepper as desired. Finally, sprinkle with parsley and serve with slices of lemon.
