Gut Hermannsberg’s 2024 Riesling 7 Terroirs might be considered their “entry-level” wine but it’s actually a blend of fruit from all seven of their Grosse Lage vineyards. What sets this 2024 vintage apart is the unusual circumstances of the year. Due to the challenges faced, no GG wines were bottled and all the precious Grand Cru fruit was used in the 7 Terroirs. Essentially, it’s GG multiplied by seven. That explains why it earned it a 95-point score from Suckling.
The story of Gut Hermannsberg begins back in 1901, when the Prussian state founded the estate and purchased its first parcels of land, with the first Riesling vines planted in 1903. Nearly a century later, in 2009, the winery was acquired by investor and wine lover, Jens Reidel, and a year later it was renamed Gut Hermannsberg, in honor of the vineyard surrounding the estate. After extensive improvements in both viticulture and winemaking, the estate is once again considered one of the finest in the Nahe.
For Riesling 7 Terroirs 2024 Gut Hermannsberg, the team hand‑harvests each vineyard separately. Vinification also takes place individually, allowing the distinct character of each site—and each soil type, as the name suggests—to shine. Fermentation and maturation occur in a combination of stainless‑steel tanks and neutral barrels, adding roundness and helping to “tame” the wild, powerful nature of the GG vineyards while preserving the wine’s vibrant primary fruit. Finally, the seven components are blended with precision to proudly express both the Riesling variety and the unique mesoclimate of the Nahe.
With the 2024 7 Terroirs, the Gut Hermannsberg team manages to capture the grandeur of the Nahe’s top vineyards in a wine that is incredibly enjoyable right now but has the ability to age—and at a price that makes it truly unbeatable. We’ve already secured our bottles; what are you waiting for?
