If you love high acidity and want to take a break from Assyrtiko and Riesling, then Kliprug Chenin Blanc Kaapzicht from South Africa is exactly what you’re looking for. We had been searching for a Chenin Blanc that combines the variety’s typical aromas but with greater intensity and generosity — the way only the New World can express them. And just so you know, the 2023 vintage was so impressive that both James Suckling and Tim Atkin awarded it 93 points!
Kaapzicht winery is located in South Africa's most famous wine region, Stellenbosch. In 1946, David Steytler, a major in the Second World War, decided to resign and become a viticulturist! A year later he planted the first Chenin Blanc vines, which today are among the oldest in South Africa. The winery now operates with the 4th generation at the helm and Danie Jnr carrying on the tradition. The Kliprug vineyard, planted in 1982 on wild rocky soils, belongs to the Old Vines category of South Africa, which strictly concerns vines above 35 years old.
Kliprug Chenin Blanc - Kaapzicht fermented with ambient yeasts in oak barrels and
and then matured there for 10 months before bottling, gaining an elegant, creamy texture while still preserving its fresh fruit character.
You will enjoy it now and in the next 3 years!
