Kleidi Assyrtiko – Domaine Michaelidi has been refreshed and re‑released following popular demand! With a new label and a renewed philosophy, it returns to stir things up with an exceptional value for money—one that will make many more expensive wines blush with envy. A fantastic and genuinely “honest” Assyrtiko, produced in limited quantities, that you should absolutely include in your collection.
The winery of Iordanis Michaelidis in Agios Athanasios, Drama, was founded when his grandfather arrived as a refugee from Asia Minor and settled in Kyrgia, Drama. A century later, with the third generation now at the helm, the estate produces wines of character and quality from both indigenous and international grape varieties.
Kleidi Assyrtiko – Domaine Michaelidi comes from two selected vineyard parcels, 22 years old, in Drama, planted on clay‑limestone soils at an altitude of 130 metres. These conditions allow the grapes to ripen fully in the area’s cool climate, producing fruit with excellent aromatic concentration. Winemaking begins with cold maceration to enhance the aromatic profile, while fermentation and maturation take place in a combination of new French oak barrels (30%) and stainless‑steel tanks (70%). The wine then matures on its fine lees for seven months, with regular bâtonnage, gaining volume, texture and complexity.
Kleidi Assyrtiko – Domaine Michaelidi has all the credentials to win over devoted fans of the variety. The only challenge is availability—production is limited—so secure a bottle while stocks last.
