Why do we love it?

The La terre pres du soleil Gkirlemis Winery is a Malagouzia that does not impress with its intense floral character but is riveting with its amazing texture and its exuberant mouth. It won us over from the first sip so we challenge you to try it yourself.

The family winery Gkirlemi started its course in 2007 when studies and experiments took place in order to decide which are the most suitable varieties to be planted in the 350 acres of privately owned vineyards in Domokos. A team of experienced viticulturists and oenologists did their best to bring out a special and uncharted terroir. From the very first samples, the results were quite encouraging, but this year we consider that they are going through their best phase. Malagouzia is one of the latest additions to their range and has the special name La terre pres du soleil (the land near the sun) and is dedicated to their mother. The cold extraction and the fermentation at low temperatures enhance the aromatic character of the variety while the maturation with the fine wine lees for 4 months emphasize the oily texture and the body of the wine.

La terre pres du soleil Gkirlemis Winery has pale lemon color and delicate aromas of λεμονιού, γκρέιπφρουτ, μοσχολέμονου, λουίζας, λευκόσαρκου ροδάκινου και ανανά

In the mouth it has medium body, crisp acidity and enjoyable oily texture. Ripe citrus fruits, unripe tropical fruits, white flowers and spicy herbs compose a very interesting bouquet.

Pair it with stuffed cabbage rolls. spinach risotto, calamari sauteed with pesto

Shrimps with garlic and lemon

  • 500 gr. jumbo sized shrimps. Defrost them if they are frozen. If they are not pre-peeled, peel them when they have defrosted.)
  • 2 tbsps. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsps. fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tbsp. lemon zest
  • salt

If you use frozen shrimps, let them defrost overnight in the fridge. Drain the shrimps and dry them with kitchen towel.

 Zest a large lemon and then squeeze the juice to give at least 2 tablespoons of juice and close to half a tablespoon of lemon zest. Clean the garlic and finely chop  it.

 Heat the olive oil in medium to high heat, then add the butter to melt.

Add the shrimps to a single layer and leave until they start getting pink color at the edges, no longer than 1-2 minutes.

Turn the shrimps on the other side and add the chopped garlic. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes. Pour in the lemon juice, add the lemon zest and salt to taste and mix to cover the shrimps with the sauce.

Serve immediately
